For a long time now I've felt there were similarities or parallels between music and bondage. This thought first came to mind some time ago at a shoot when I was rigging something that was not specifically planned for ahead of time, and I described what I was doing as "playing jazz" -- that is, I know what the song is but I'm improvising and not completely sure where it's going to end up. In a case like this, for both music and bondage there are certain rules and structures that must be adhered to, but there's also a creative flow in play too.

But beyond that, I feel the bondage (and fetish) producers are similar to musicians. Everyone has their own style, their own way of creating their art, and their own audience. To become proficient, dedication and study are key, and sacrifice of some kind is usually necessary. But that becomes an acceptable part of the deal because of the passion to create and the love of doing it. Getting a lot of practice helps, too.

The two are also similar in that there is an almost limitless range of diversity for both, thank goodness. How boring the world would be if everyone created the same music, or if all musicians used the same instruments. The same is true for producing bondage. There's a wide difference in the materials used, the types of models utilized (and their individual vocalizations), and you might have noticed there's even a distinctive individuality in all the various bondage websites' designs. There's also a tremendous range of emotions for both. The mood for polka music is very different than for blues or punk rock, just as a tickling video has a very different vibe than one with heavy discipline. And no one should ever feel like their tastes are the only one that's valid, because there will always be somebody who's going to declare "your favorite band sucks."

Furthermore, there's a broad spectrum of production values for both of these. Some people go to great lengths and expense to create orchestral music, going all the way to the other end with musicians playing for spare change on street corners. But in both cases it's all still music. And for bondage, some may pay thousands of dollars to create a single feature, while others are shooting their videos in motel rooms with existing light on their phones. Music and bondage can be produced just for fun, doing it purely for the art, whilst others are definitely creating a product with the intent of profit, or at least sustaining a business. But in either case the results can be enjoyable.

I'm not going to equate certain styles of music with certain styles of bondage, e.g., which producer is doing opera? And what kind of music would equate to shibari?  I'll leave that to someone else who has more enthusiasm for such an endeavor. But I would hope that what I'm producing would be akin to "pop" or maybe "classic rock," that is, if either one of those had more to do with damsels in distress.

Every now and then a producer will proudly proclaim they've made the "Best Bondage Video Ever." I admire their confidence, but I don't think that's possible. Because of individual tastes, there could no more be a best bondage video than there's a universally regarded "favorite song" by everyone. Not everyone is going to like, say, country music, just as some people would not consider a bondage video "best" unless it had straitjackets or pantyhose or bare feet or whatever their own individual "must-have" might be.

While music has a large, very profitable industry behind it, the same is not true for the bondage business. Nonetheless the similarity here is that the products of both are widely pirated. However, piracy isn't going to shut down Universal Music Group or Sony BMG Music Entertainment, but it certainly has driven lots of the mom-and-pop bondage producers out of business... and will continue to still their unique voices until something changes.

And finally, while I've limited this analogy to professionally produced bondage, I realize that a lot of people like to create their own music at home, and that's great too. It's a fun hobby.

These days we (that is https://twitter.com/LoreleiMission and I) are shooting custom videos whenever possible. When it works well, it's got a lot of positives: it helps us with our limited model budget, we get the chance to work with some of our favorite people a bit more, or hire exciting new models, and frequently we have an opportunity to shoot something a little different. Usually the turnover for these projects is fairly quick. Once the funds clear and the model is scheduled, we get the shoot completed and try to get the edited project to the buyer as fast as possible.

"Freedom Woman Captured!" was different in that this process took a lot longer than usual. Like, months. But once we overcame all the assorted hurdles -- and I'll spare you the minutia of that -- it went really well. This video was produced by Teo, who (coincidentally enough) doesn't live too far from us. After Lorelei and I met with him, we felt he'd be a good choice to play the second henchman of his story. It also eases some cost and other logistical issues of getting a henchman.



Our titular heroine was played by the remarkable Riley Reyes https://twitter.com/RileyReyXXX This outstanding performer has worked with our business associates at http://fmconcepts.us a few times, but this was our first experience shooting with her. The villainess of the tale was played by the always amazing Agatha Delicious https://twitter.com/AgathaDelicious It was the first time these two stunning ladies had worked together. And even though Teo has commissioned a few videos in the past, this was his first time being on a video set. As it turns out, Teo is a natural. That is, he comported himself with the proper respect and professionalism we expect from people on our sets. These three also had a number of things in common, like various artistic abilities and some other overlapping geeky interests. Because of these, the trio had genuine chemistry. It made for a fun working environment.

A little side note about the artistic tendencies: whenever possible, we like to take the talent out to eat after we finish for the day. One of Lorelei's favorite traditions is to have everyone doodle on the paper placemats when available. For that meal, the placemat drawings from our producer and models were definitely the most impressive we'd seen.

This particular video was also unusual since we shot it over two consecutive days. Having Teo present was very helpful in that we could get his immediate input for how the story was shot. He told us he also gained a new appreciation for the work we put into our videos. For example, the fight scene took quite a while to shoot, as well as a couple of painful extra takes, even though it only lasts a few seconds in the final edit. Teo is a genuine superheroine enthusiast, and I believe that shines through in the scenes he had us create for him.

For Ms. Reyes, her new experience for this story was being bound and gagged in a car trunk. She did have fun with it too, so she tells us. Agatha got to show off her acting abilities (in the villainess role) for this story more than our previous time working with her. We were definitely impressed with both of them.

Whenever a model gets to that point in her career when she decides to be more selective about whom she'll work with, I'm still flattered when Lorelei https://twitter.com/LoreleiMission and I (and our associates at FM Concepts https://twitter.com/FMConceptsinc ) make that model's short list. I would hope it's because our shoots are fun, we always treat the models with respect, and we put their safety and well-being above all else. One of the models who have chosen us to be on their preferred list is Alexis Taylor https://twitter.com/oddlydisturbing We've been working together since the start of her fetish career, and while she's mainly pursuing other interests these days, I'm always happy to get her in front of our cameras when I can.

Because of budgetary limitations, quite a few of our shoots these days are custom videos. What's interesting about the "bespoke" (to use the current, trendy term) projects is we get to do different things. In this case, we got to produce a bondage-with-groping video. This was unusual for us, to say the least. It reminded me of a similar video I did with Loren Chance a few years ago for Richard Reynolds https://twitter.com/Reynoldsbon I remember telling him as we were getting started that this sort of thing was outside of our established relationship. Sure, it was fun, but still kind of weird. I suppose it would've only been stranger to do a video like that with a model I'd just met, unless of course she performs in the regular adult business... and I was dressed in a lizard-man costume. So a buyer named MP commissioned this story, and I asked Alexis if she was interested in doing the script. It's not the kind of thing Alexis does these days, nor had really done with any producer other than Jay Edwards, as far as I know. But she was game to help me with this video, and it was a fun afternoon. I believe at one point Lorelei felt I was being a little too rough with our star, but I don't think Alexis necessarily agreed with that assessment. I guess I'll have to leave it for the viewer to decide. In the story, Alexis looks amazing in her thong bikini, tied (all tying is shown on-screen) in a classic position with a crotchrope and toe-tie later, and she's detective gagged witha bandana "bandit gag" added at the end. Oh yeah, and there's groping and fondling and a little mild spanking thrown in there too.

A couple of weeks later I got to bring Alexis back for a little epilogue to the story. She was wearing a minidress and high heels for the scene, tied sitting on a stool and gagged with microfoam tape. Again, more classic bondage for a classic beauty. A little over a year ago at a party hosted by https://twitter.com/hyponlinemedia I met https://twitter.com/SplendorFetish (He's a really nice guy, although I don't what his stage name is -- sorry! Tell me and I'll amend this entry) A short time after that he sent me a DM and said he'd just had a shoot with Christiana Cinn https://twitter.com/ChristianaCinn and she was looking for more bondage work. I'd seen her previously on http://fmconcepts.us and https://twitter.com/Hollyrope and I was always floored by Ms. Cinn. I think she's just stunning. And apparently the folks at Penthouse feel the same way, and they chose her to be a Pet. Because of this and also because she'd started performing in the higher-paying world of mainstream adult entertainment, I must admit I felt a little intimidated, and I didn't reach out to schedule her.

But then Eric Holman scheduled Christiana for a "Three Amigos" shoot for the day after Christmas. It was like Christmas arrived a day late for me. For my hour with her, I decided to do another steampunk-inspired scene.  My main reason for this is I feel Ms. C. also has a real movie-star beauty, and I wanted to showcase it with a classic-themed damsel story.

I really enjoy the steampunk-style stories, and the models seem to like playing dress-up for those as well. But these offerings are never a big financial success for me, which I find somewhat puzzling. With all due respect to Andromeda and Perseus, the whole "damsel in distress" genre (as we know it today) started in the Victorian Era, with steam trains and buzz saws and all that silent movie peril kind of thing. I feel there's something inherently old-fashioned about D-I-D situations.  But I realize I may be in the minority with that feeling. I don't know if I'm ahead of the curve or if it'll never catch on. Nonetheless, I wanted to give it one more try. So I wrote up a quick little scene for Christiana to be an intrepid private detective, investigating an incident from an earlier chapter of the ongoing steampunk tale. As often happens in these stories, Detective Cinn was caught snooping by the notorious villain "Bike." The next thing you know, our brave heroine is bound and gagged, with a device he stole from his twin brother (Professor Claw) secured between her thighs.

I'd like to note my appreciation for Christiana doing the vibrator scene for us. I gave her the option to skip it, but she's a real trouper and made the video much more interesting and fun by putting in the extra effort -- and giving a fantastic performance.
