Jon's Bondage Blog

As 2013 draws to a close, I'd like to take a moment to reflect on the past year.  In all, it was rather a mixed bag, in a yin-yang sort of way.  On the bright side, we (that's Lorelei and me, not the royal or editorial "we") didn't have any big horrible tragedies or upheavals.  On the other side of the coin, we didn't enjoy any huge successes or breakthroughs either.  We managed to stay alive and stay in business, which is an accomplishment in itself these days, I suppose.  Sadly, most of the goals I'd set for 2013 remain unmet, which will save me some time when I draw up my goals for the year ahead, if nothing else.

But I try to keep things positive and upbeat (otherwise this blog would be a real downer to read).  Once again, I got to work with some truly amazing women.  And I'm fairly happy with most of the video features I produced this year, mostly because of the gorgeous and talented ladies who starred in them.  And yet I can't escape this nagging feeling that I really wanted to produce something more, something better.

In one respect, I suppose I should feel lucky that even after being in this business for all this time I still have a restlessness about what I do.  If I was complacent, if I gave up trying to produce something that wasn't the same old stuff, then I imagine I'd be about as bored as some of the viewers.

It seems like it's always a question of balance.  To some degree, all fetishists want to see the same thing over and over.  For certain producers that should probably be their motto.  But to be fair, even seeing the same old thing can still be enjoyable if it's created with energy, spirit and enthusiasm... and a little innovation.  For various reasons I feel that some of my work this year was lacking in one or two of those categories.  A lot of the time that was not in my control, but then again people shouldn't have to pay for excuses.

So that brings us back to that yin-yang theme.  On one hand we have beautiful, sexy women bound and gagged and giving outstanding performances.  And on the other hand I have this seemingly insatiable desire to somehow make it even more enjoyable for the viewer.  And that seems to be pretty much how the year went.  I feel really fortunate that I get another chance to try to do better in the year ahead.  Wish me luck, buy something if you can, and let me know how I'm doing.  Carpe Damsel!

This month marks 10 years since the American Damsels website http://americandamsels.com began.  I'd like to take a moment to thank all the people who have helped keep the site alive all these years.  The road has had its ups and downs, and we've had no shortage of adversity of many kinds.  But I hope we'll be able to continue with it for some years to come.

A couple of little bits of trivia come to mind about the inception of the site.  I didn't really want to start one, because I saw how http://bedroombondage.com had taken over Lorelei's life, and that all-consuming responsibility was something I was hoping to avoid.  Nonetheless, way back then it was a good way to make decent money, so I felt it was necessary and possibly unavoidable.  I remember mentioning my reluctant plan to start a paysite to Isaac W. http://centaurcelluloid.com and his response was something to the effect of "What took you so long?"

As I was searching for a name for the site, I had a notebook with little scribbles of random ideas for videos.  One was a take-off on a famous competition show.  The idea was to have models compete in a variety of categories for the top honor of "American Damsel."  I was thinking maybe I could have some producer buddies act as the judges for it.  Luckily the video was never produced, as the folks who run the real show are rather touchy about people doing any similar kind of competition with a name like theirs.  If I recall correctly, they sued a bar in Florida over something like that.  In any case, the focus of the site went far away from that idea and took on a personality of its own.  It's grown and changed, and evolved.

One change that saddens me is the shift from only still photos at the beginning to exclusively video updates now.  I like photos, and I really enjoyed doing still shoots.  I enjoyed the control of being able to create and capture that one particular moment.  However, now it's not economically feasible to do that any more.  Unless Ikaras Jones is around, it seems we hardly even have time to get any (or many) production stills at all these days.

So we'll focus on the positive and I'll try to keep on producing videos for American Damsels which I hope you'll all enjoy.  Carpe Damsel!
